DOMESTIC RELATIONS MEDIATION
SEMA is committed to offering divorcing/separating couples, or couples with post-divorce/separation disputes, a fair and confidential process in which they can discuss and decide all relevant issues affecting themselves, their children, their finances, and property. The mediator does not act as an attorney for either or both, but is a neutral and independent facilitator.
Subjects covered in Domestic Relations Mediation:
- Parenting plan (custody)
- Child support
- Children’s expenses
- College expenses
- Spousal support
- Division of assets
- Responsibility for debt
- Medical insurance
- Uninsured medical expenses/obligations
- Life insurance
- Tax issues and consequences
Of course, each of the above subjects has many facets to be agreed upon while taking into consideration the totality of the parties’ circumstances and the consequences of each option.
For this reason, it is anticipated that most domestic relations issues can be mediated in ten (10) to twelve (12) hours; however, more complex financial matters may take additional time.
Benefits of Domestic Relations Mediation:
- Less expensive
- Less stressful
- More time efficient
- All relevant issues addressed
- Comprehensive settlement
- Full agreement and all necessary legal documents prepared by mediator
